So, the Finalists have been determined...

Who are they? and who is favoured? Anyone want to fill us in? Maybe the team reps could tell us about their team, and "who to watch?" and where they are going to party?? Leading receivers, scorers, DB's to watch, and their team's record and how they got to the finals would be cool.

Okay,

I'll take a run a this one but I can speak for Elite only;

They say that to be the champion, you must beat the champion and that holds true for the Elite final. Let's put this in perspective; the Assassins were the #2 in Canada last year and by all reports had a pretty good run a this year's Nationals as well. So, the Eagles have their hands full and must be ready to meet the challenge to keep it close and go for the upset. The Eagle must be as sound as they were in beating a vey good Avengers team in the semi. I am not foolish enough to make a prediction here, but lets assess it this way;

(1) QB's ....Shea vs Bell. Enough said. Tim and I don't exactly go for dinner together or exchange birthday gifts, but I must admit Shea has the decisive edge...just look what he has achieved. However, one thing that you can be sure about is that Bell will bring it for all 15 rounds. Will it be enough?

(2) Offensively, both teams have plenty of fire power and plenty of veteran savvy. I call this even.

(3) Defensively...Assassins do have some pretty good schemes without question and they are athletically sound with no personnel weaknesses. You need to be accurate and earn your yards to beat them.
The Eagles have gotten a little younger on defense and are playing with much more confidence. This makes for a good match up with their talented "O".
(4) Intangibles...leadership, big play capability, renewed rivalry, etc. etc. Who wants it more?
(5) It is worthy to note that since 1997 or so, there are only two teams to win the Elite. Eagles have 3, Assassins have the balance.

There you have it. I'll leave the predictions to the touch football gurus out there but I will say this...this game should be a dandy.

As Terrell Owens says (I can't stand him!), "Bring your popcorn"!

Thanks Jim.

These are 2 of my 4 favourite teams.

Winnipeg has 3 top teams in Canada. That Eagle group would have been top 6 at worst down east. That Eagle Offense is like watching a receiver's clinic. All those receiver's are real artists in how they run patterns. I really enjoy watching the Eagles Receivers work DBs. It is one team that has receiver's who actually look like they are working Dbs, rather than just running around.

Of course the Assassins have some legendary guys, (Shea, Toronno and Danny) Those guys are worth the price of admission as well. Their younger guys K-Dog and Dave Suhn Jr. are second to none in Canada. Plus the Comeback player of the year, Bill Coulter. He had a hip replacement 14 months ago!!! He's amazing(and my personal hero)

One last point,....you mentioned 15 rounds????? Can an old alumnus get in on that?:)

Again thanks for that info.

Hey league, how about the rest of the finals. Give us some reason to comeout and watch. How'd your team get to the final? That is, who led ya there.

So Phil, why is Morningwood gonna beat the Hitmen? I mean ya'd think the Hitmen with two ex junior players,might have an advantage over those old dumpy Winipeg Rods Alumni. What gives?

And someone one from Dog Pound and Schmucks step up. Both you guys return to the "Show" after a couple years away. Seems like you always had the "core" but really put it together. Who got ya there?

This is the furthest the DoggPound has ever gone in the playoffs (thanks to the Cinderella Isotopes 2 years ago)

I would say it was our 12 or so committed players plus our coach Dennis that got us there

Dont know what gives Darrell, but if you want to bet the house on it, i'll take that bet. Even though im not gonna be there i'm still confident in my team.
Morningwood's a good team, good athelets, solid chemistry, smart qb(s), and they can definately put up pts. However, the Hitmen are no pushovers either. We can still Ball and run with anyone. Junior players or not....If its nice out RCH will put up 40 on anyone no matter the roster.

Background info going into the div 3 finals, aka "The Show"
* Reg Season Rankings: Wood #1 (15-3), RCH #2(15-3) - No Cinderellas in this game.
* Regular season h2h: Split. RCH won 1st meeting, Morning Wood won 2nd meeting

* Players to Watch: Morningwood Franklin, McAurthur - RCH Brad "Golden Child" Sarna, Pat "You gonna let me eat?" Allen

It's the Rods vs. the Rifles. Alumni version 2007.
