Well, the info is up on the home page, it's time to get ready for some football. 2008 style
The WTFL was pretty competitive last season. Anyone catch the Flagmag rankings? I think they ranked everyone from the WTFL. Where did they get the info to rank teams? I wonder.
One thing is for sure the competition among the top teams in each division was pretty close. Now just out of curiosity.....How many of those teams are going to be as good or better, and maybe move up a division?
Someone mentioned tome, that the Elite and Div 1 teams should be combined!!!I was shocked and said, Oh no, some teams will drop down then. But he responded, well, maybe, but most of those Div 1 teams frequently beat the Elite teams. Upon reflection, I remembered those games where I saw those scores that reflected that. By Gosh he was right!!
And what about Div 2? What a great division. Teams were pretty tight in the standings. Literally , a couple more wins or losses, and the worst team could have been the first team!!
Div 3! Well it looks like half that division should move up to Div 2.
Div 4 Them thar top 4 teams look like they should all move up. Lots of former Divsion winners in that top 4
Division 5 - OK, The Aint's??? what's up with Div 5? You guys should be in Elite. What is the "Aint's record" the last 2 years? 100 - 0. That's a pretty good team.
Division 6 - Hey same as many of the other divisions. Looks like the top 6 teams should move up a few divisions to find better competition.
Rec Division - Again some pretty impressive records. Maroons, and the next 4 in that division should think about Div 4 status, based on their impressive 2007 records.
Woman's Division - Wow! Loks like a natural dividing line about halfway down the standings. Would that division be seperated into an Upper and Lower division?
Anyone got any news regarding who is moving up, down, out, any mergers? Disbanding.
Predictions anyone? Randy Moss signed with New England. Assassins celebrate their 30th? year in the WTFL. They are planning a huge 3 decade alumni tournament, a golf tournament, a Tim Shea roast, and of course a beer drinking contest. There are close to 100 people who have worn the Assassin colors, in all those years. Somewhat interesting is their website, http://assassinsfootball.com/
What else is new? Is that merger happening between those two teams....??? Can't think of their names?
Quite a few brand new teams have "signed up" on the teampage of the website.... looks like an interestng year.
Anyone got some gossip?

Please don't say you're going to combine Elite and Div 1 and let players play on more than one team in the division. I seem to remember trying that in 2006 and it SUCKED!
I don't think crossovers should be allowed either if you're allowing players to play in both divisions. Bottom line, if you're on 2 teams those 2 teams should never face each other.

I have no interest in formatting the divisions. (that's actually a funny one)I am just looking forward to seeing some good ball. Anyone know where in the league I can find some. Ya know, where are those good young players going to play? Whose team will they make better? Who will provide the most exciting play?
Can we please get some good young players to come up to Elite, with their Bison, or Rifle buddies, and give those Eagles a run for their money?
Who will be the next Avengers? The Who dats, that's who!
Yee Haw! What's with all this snow?

Our team is coming back minus half the players, with some new faces under a different name, is the early bird registration a big deal with the name change?? Just wanna make sure we can get in fine. DOC Victorious Secret = Blitzkrieg. Can't wait to pull it together and make a name this year. Peace.

It used to be that teams would sign up and only show up on the teams page once approved (paid). This is no longer the case. All teams that have signed up on the website will show up, only unapproved teams will show up with a red outline. The idea behind this is that it allows teams signing up to see who is playing where etc as opposed to keeping everyone in the dark until registration is over. Teams will only be approved after their registration night and after all fees have been received.
I did forget to mention that currently, only league admin can change the names of teams. This may or may not be changing, either way, teams can request to have their name changed, after they have been approved under last years name.
Blitzkrieg, since you signed up prior to the registration info being posted, I will leave as is and make a note that you are a returning team under the DOC name. However, any teams from here on in signing up will have to use the previous team name or risk missing out!
and no, new teams cannot steal someones team name from last year to qualify for early registration! there must be a significant amount of previous players on the roster of a returning team.

We need a Chili's franchise in Winnipeg. That Baby back ribs thing from a couple years ago was great. Remember Matt Sheridan doing that rendition!? he was good. So good that it reminds me to ask? who's comin back to the W?
I checked out the team page and only 10 teams???
I know it's March, but registration deadline is only 5 /6 weeks away
I mean we don't have Chili's, but we do have Hooters.....and now (er when they move)right across from the Stadium!!!! Maybe we can go for a tailgate party after the League Finals

Refundable Performance Bond ?? geez that's a switch.
I find this rather disappointing that the Winnipeg Touch Football League is going to expect that each team post a $150 bond that is only refundable (if not used) on ONE single day of the year (AGM). if you do the math let's say you have 80 teams this year, that's 80 * 150 = 12 Grand. How many teams attend the AGM - 10 - 30? so what happens to that other hypothetical $7500 ? How many games were defaulted last season in total?
Sorry but this new rule really sounds like a cash grab if you ask me and I am sure others will agree. if there was a ton of teams and I mean like a hundred games that were forfitted this new rule might apply but seriously I think probably 20 games across 8 divisions all year were forfitted, that doesn't validate every team to have to cough up 150 bucks extra and they have to wait a year to get it back if they don't use it.... I mean how many games had two or less referees? 100, 150 - how much of the WTFL membership was reimbursed?
The OC along with alot of other teams last year had a series of games that we had to play with only two or less referee's, since we couldn't send a representative to the AGM we lost out on fees OWED TO US, maybe a hundred bucks, now what made it more troubling was that when I asked the league regarding how many games we were owed (to compare our figures vs theirs) I was told they had no record of which games had two or even less referee's were at, how does that compare to the other teams that had to deal with only two zebras? I think this one day refund policy is unfair. The League pocketed alot of money from teams who were 1. not aware they could get their money back and 2. teams that never showed to collect their cabbage. Are we playing all our games at the stadium this year? the league should be able to afford a few games per divison for sure with what they saved or what they will earn this year season with the new "rule"
I know someone will post "stop your bitching and whining and if you don't like it leave etc" and with that being said - my parting comment and it is not meant to be critical but why not increase the money you pay each referee to a minimum of a 5 dollar per position increase, this way you will definitely have the referee membership increase rather then jack teams with these blatant cash grab tactics. As the team rep of the OC, I honestly don't think we will return this season under these type of stipulations. I'll leave it up to my teammates to vote but I think our players might rather try out one of the other touch football options here in the city, where you pay less and get more rather then the other way around.
Best of luck to the rest of the teams of the WTFL in 2008.

Hey Marty,
I think the performance bond is a great addtion. Other sports do it all the time and it works. As part of the exec in the past, even if there are just a few defaults it is such a pain to get the money paid. Also if you actually want the whole league to have input on how its run then you need to make sure you have a rep at the AGM. This is the best way to make sure all teams are at the AGM to help give input and improve the league. Most teams have at least 10 players and that is only $15/per player or one less pitcher of beer this summer. You or anybody else could also ref one double header a week and you'll have your money back before the end of June. That's all I have to say.....for now.

Hooters sponsers our team, if u talk to them im sure they would work out something sweet for a windup, or final game get together. and per. bond, as long as u get the money back at the end of the year, who cares. lol. its easier putting the cash up front then bugging everyone on your team to pay for a default, i know last year i ended up paying most of it for our team. How many games are there goin to be in the reg. season this year, did u decide to cut 2 out??

I think the performance bond is a great idea. We need more people at the AGM, since I don't even know the last time an AGM had enough people at it to make it official (aka a quorum). This is also fairly popular in other sports. From what I hear, soccer and volleyball (if you can call them sports) are much stricter with their teams in this regard. I've heard of leagues where if you don't show up to the AGM, you are not allowed back in the league the next year. I think we get off easy.
This is hardly a "cash grab". Show up to the AGM, vote on some stuff (Marty, they have donuts there usually), and get your $150. The end result is that the league can take that feedback and make the next season better.
For those guys who can find the time to play on 3 teams I'm sure you can find 1-2 hours on a saturday afternoon in the winter to show up to a meeting.
Of course there are other leagues you can go play in, the WTFL is a league run by it's members. If that isn't your bag nobody is forcing you to stay. I think the WTFL would be better off with less teams anyway.
Just my 2 cents. I also love donuts.

Early bird registration guarantees your team a spot in the league for the 2008 season. This is to give us time to assess how many teams we can accommodate this season without any teams from last year missing out. This is why it's important for returning teams to register during the early bird period.

So, who is not coming back???
The Bosos, Aruba Knights,Garden city Gnomes, Pink Panthers, Six, OC and The Franchise (did they change their name to Rodney Favre, so they can stay in Div 6, despite a record of 16 -2? Tell me it ain't so)
Less than a month to go. Hope teams get registered in their divisions, and get in under the "cap"
No Rec/New teams signed up yet???? Interesting.
Anyone heard of anyone else folding, or whatever.

About May 8th. However, in all likelihood we can post the May 10th, 11th games, etc.
We want to stress the fact that we want to have a chance to assign refs, have a full complement, and if not, tweak the schedule. Obviously, we'd like to put out a complete schedule, and not have to change it later.
All Teams should expect to play as soon as the season opens, May 10th, (unless of course they have requested off those certain dates.)
If you need to know a specific date, we can probably give you the info.
We will also try and get it posted earlier if possible.
