now i'm no scientist, but if you get a max of 7 games (most teams will fall in the 5 or 6 category) and the registration fee is $650, then for all but 2 teams in each division, you're literally paying over $100 per game. pretty pricey. Even hockey rinks in the city don't charge that much, and they clean the ice before and after each use, plus you get 2 dressing rooms. Sounds a little expensive to me, but like i said, i'm no scientist.

Nope and you have no idea what they charge for rent and what the pay for refs, administration and up to date stats, and tournament subsidy costs are, as well as championship prizes, and other give aways. Too rich,??? don't think so. (Saskatchewan and Toronto are actually more expensive)
It's an acquired taste. Fast break football, tons of scoring, lots of weekend heroes scoring TDS, beers afterward, with rock music, with the option of watching late night hockey or basketball on a big screen tv, with your teammates, or watching action on the two fields from either field level, or the upper deck. It's Rock and roll fastbreak football.
Hey you can always stay home with the wife and kids, or try drinking and driving,at a bar... You're right nothing compares to that!
yup pretty expensive! But then the cost of a fun night, with your Buds, when it's 30 below outside, playin a little ball...?????...........Priceless!
back to the lab..:)

Hey nice to see some competiton.
But don't forget the MITFL has been around for fourteen years. The M features "fastbreak football" That's 5 on 5 on a 50 x 30? yd field. One of the nice things is that you can score from anywhere. So everyone has the ability to be a TD getter. Defensively, you have to be quick or smart, as the small angles make the game quicker.
The M starts it's games at 10:20pm, and the last one goes at 12:30am, on Friday and Saturday nights.
I see the new boys have a nice new facilty, even though you start a little later. I see the concept is the same as the MITFL. However, the M aims to please. How about a little incentive. Early bird registration fee (before October 17)$590.00/team
Registration deadline for the MITFL is October 24th, Games start Halloween. First come first serve. For more info check out the website. www.mazurfootball.com

Hmmmm! That facility sure looks nice. Is it open?
Of course it's not a dome but..Something about that dome.
No, the MITFL has been around 14 years. The costs are reflective of the rental for the dome, the refs, the trophies, keeper awards, and a small stipend for doing the stats. In it's 14 years, teams have had a chance to play where they wanted. I figure they know best, for the most part. Did ya know the first year, with that 7 team tournament,I had to kick in $25.00 to balance the books?
The M, like many other events I have originated in the past, Black Ice tournaments, Festival du Voyageur tournament, Provincial tournament, Player development clinics, Woman's league, Spring Tournament, One on One tournament, All-Star Game (current format),again offered a unique, "1st time ever" event. The co-ed tournament, and the 2 on 2 tournament, the absolutely crazy convert overtime for tied teams. All those events, are new ideas, but cost money. Last year the two events I tried, the co-ed and the 2 on 2 did not cover the costs of rental, ref costs, or prize money.
So, whatever dividends were left over from the odd league fees, went toward covering some of those costs. The extra dollars also cover the refs and the field rental for the play-offs. Chopping the fees down eliminates the fun new stuff, and I'll probably have to clear the golfballs and bartend, as well as ref also. Hey I love achallenge! Plus now I have two new hips, let's get this party started.
To try those new events, there are some costs that have to be covered.
In the MITFL, Custom scheduling was the rule, so much, that the "new boys" had so many requests, that a cap had to be placed on their 24 combination requests, for each of their 12teams, and a request fee was implemented. This worked, as only serious requests became the norm.
The odd team made "policy exemption" requests, citing injuries, and other stories. In a couple cases, the father/ son scenario, produced a special category for a couple teams. All these "new" ideas produced a fun, enhusiastic league.
On a couple of occassions, some of the "new boys " bitched about the upper div players. In some cases, the rules were upheld when obvious attempts to disrespect the integrity of the division was evident, while at others, the new league Prez, requested exemptions. His reasons seemed reasonable, and wouldn't jeopardize the division's competitive balance, so they were granted. Again, aim to please.
It must be a good organization, they copied the league almost exactly, and moved it to the U of M. What's the title PIFL, or The Avenger nation league. Hey,.... now I know why the WTFL season had to end so early!
Your comments about the dome are absolutely true. Makes the dome seem pretty shabby. Well I don't know about why the lights are the way they are. Maybe because, After all it is a GOLF DOME
It is kind of quaint isn't it. That far field is basically dark. But we all knew that. At least you had an excuse when you dropped a ball. Now what are ya going to say? Oh it is too late at night 2:00am???
But you have a good point Ginger, ya want me to still "aim to please" some more huh? Well, here goes.....OK, for the next 10 days, I'll drop the price to $500.00/team till October 1st. After all I am on the hook for the 10 days rental. Ouch! (Nice of those Rats to let me know they were going to Steal the Maze league) Seems pretty funny doesn't it. What's that saying, "Sports doesn't build character, it reveals it?"
OK, to reiterate, so the MITFL, out of the Golfdome, for teams that want to play at a little earlier time slots, maybe we'll just go 10:30 and 11:45, early entry fee(till Oct. 1st will be $500.00)
The Golfdome is a more central location for most Winnipegers, not the30- 45 minute drive for the U of M. Plus, at the Dome, ya can come early and hit a bucketful of balls, play a little pool, hit the arcade, or sit back in the lounge and watch the big screen and....the "seating" puts you right on top of the near field. Plus you're home in less than 20 minutes!!
All that for $500.00. Hows that Mr.Ging11

okay time out...
Darrell why did you post a message saying nice to see some "friendly competition" if didnt really mean it? from the name calling i dont think you find it nice. in the span of a week you ve dropped the price of your league 150$. it seems like an act of desperation if you ask me. im pretty sure you wont see john or scotty drop their original price and get into a money battle. they found a superior facility and location (way more drinking places around a university campus than a railroad track), and are confident that the price they are charging is fair. the lowering of the price is a reflection of how over valued the golf dome actually is. its not the only place to play football anymore.

Dear PP.
As a matter of fact I emailed a note of congratulations to the "new boys." I noted their "being on the ball" with the new facility. I should have noted how stealthily they managed to set it all up also. However, I must say I don't think to highly of them basically taking /stealing my Indoor concept per batem, but....imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery. Ya'd think they would have at least changed some of the rules...Oh well. I'll take that as a compliment.
Now you have a choice. Choice is good. They sure have a huge spacious facility. Will they sell binoculars?.... Not like the Dome, where you are literally on top of the field. Man that's a cool "vantage" point, from that second level tee-off level. (Geez I'm getting the warm fuzzies just thinking about it.)
Let's call a spade a spade. You play for one of the Avenger Nation teams don't you? Since the Avenger Nation has formed and spread, there are two camps. Pro Avenger Nation and Anti-Avenger Nation.
I am neither. My soul motivation has always been to bring the great game of touch football to Winnipegers, as I first learned of it when the Assassins took me to Saskatoon, and then Touch bowl. I only wanted to share those experiences, the tournament, the socials, the beer gardens, the unlimited bar-b-q and beer at the brewery reception, the party(s) at one of the teams bar, and then house, with Winnipeg, and you.
I endeavored through both the Indoor league, and the Dub, to encourage more of a festive "mini-Grey Cup" atmosphere at some of these events. (Cliff hit a home run bringing Tournament of Champions to Winnipeg.) Imagine that every year, or every month end as they do in Ontario! I like that. Eventually, I guess it happened. My Indoor league has 108 teams participate in the two seasons and two tournaments. I guess you could say I have done something right??? I have created a number of events. (see the above earlier post)The Indoor league was one of them.
Evidently, you liked it.... you played in it. I didn't force you. Did you not have fun? Did you not get your money worth? Have you not made a lot of new friends? Did it not keep you warm on a freezing winter night? C'mon Homie. It's basically $10.00/a person /night. Where else can you get that kind of value?
From what I saw, and from those I asked, everyone has enjoyed the Mazur Indoor League. Oh sure some losers bitch about the refs, the lights, and of course the Assassins. However, for the most part feedback was basically always positive. If there was stuff that needed, correcting, or special requests that seemd rational, and would not jeopardize the league's integrity, I could make the adjustment. All in an effort to satisfy the participant
It is my understanding, that in a democracy and free market economy, competition, does effect the pricing of product. The price is established actually by you. Or what the market will bare. (Also Unfortunately, what the Dome charges for rent, what the Oil company charges them, what hydro charges them, etc.+ refs, prizes and my expetise= what I charge you) I'll work with the Dome and see if we can get those lights adjusted.
I explained above how the fees were used. As I said, a portion of all the teams registration fees pay for the rental dates of play off games, the two on two tourney and the co-ed tourney. Other portions of the extra revenue was used to buy promotional products, which I give away to paticipants and sponsors, and Championship shirts, backpacks, etc. to individuals on winning teams. There has been website production costs, and I have literally spent thousands of dollars on prizes, probably on something you have in your closet!
Was there some money left over to provide a small stipend to myself. Of course. A small amount to compensate for entering stats, communicating, doing the schedule, and monitoring illegal players. (remember those Assassin Legends trying to add James Murphy last year?...or the Avengers trying to add a guy who was"out for the year" but then returned the next week!!!naughty naughty)
Yes now, I have dropped the price to a break even level. The drop in price equates to no extras. Maybe No give aways, no tournaments, no new ideas. No innovation. But hey, if that's what the competition is doing...so be it.
Desperation? Naw? "Adjusting the game plan," reponding to the challenge. (Didjaknow, The Dome caved in a while back, and I had to move to Gateway CC. for a couple years.) There are always blips on the radar, and hey, if they actually change the "dark side field lights," it might just be perfect. The new boys may have that huge cavernous facility, but the M has the cozyness, and ambience of the Dome, where you are right on top of the action! (and 20 minutes from home) and it's a dome!
OK, so now, here it is "The M aims to please."
The MITFL is now
- the cheapest place to play.
- has the best times 10:20, 11:25, 12:30
- has CFL Pro football turf
- is a dome. Nothinglke the awesome splendor of a dome is there? Ever been to Rogers center?
- has unique "night game" lighting (Hey I am asking to have this corrected)
- is, for most people, no more than a 20 minute car ride.
- has a great little lounge, with cheap prices.
- is closer to Hooters and BP is just down the street, either East or South
- has nearby adjacent parking.
- has the most experienced Refs.
- has great viewing areas, from up top, and right on the sideline.
- has the arcade area.
- has the golf driving range (if ya want to come early)
- has the mini- golf
- has the video-golf
- has sweet concession staff
- has customized scheduling available upon request
- has every game access to me
- has stats entered with 24 hours.
- has special events (I'll find a way)
- has 28 years management experience organizing specifically the touch league/football throughout Winnipeg, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, 20 years experience playing on Touch Bowl Teams, University degrees in Recreation Studies and Education, (and a 3rd in Arts)a certified Level 3 Touch Officials course conductor and level 5 Touch official, as well as a Level 3 NCCP fully certified football coach.
Will I give you value for your dollar? Guaranteed.
Oh yeah, we'll have the best teams too!

There is a positve from having less teams register. You could have a longer schedule than 5 games. There is absolutely no continuity when a team plays only a 5 game schedule over a span of 3 months. Doesn't have a league feel to it. Now if you provided a 10 game season where teams play atleast every second weekend that would feel like a league . You might even consider a continuous 18 game schedule that encompasses both fall and winter. Of course the longer schedules would demand higher fees. A price war is not the answer for anyone. Some how you have to set your product apart from the other guys. Doesn't really matter how many teams you have in the end as long as the revenue is there to pay expenses. Just an idea . I really think a 10 game season would be extremely popular. Challenges make life much more interesting. Good luck with your newest challenge.

Great ideas Mel and Jyuen.
Yeah, start the old Fall time, season, break for Xmas and start again in the New Year!
maybe give an option of the 10 game season or a 5? price - just double it for the 10? What a great idea!
Thanks (send any others along)
How's that Bwanna Glen?
