Or so it seemed.!!!!
How many more times can we stand to watch these two legendary teams go head to head. It was like watching BC/Montreal in the CFL, like the Packers and the Colts, Like Ali/Frazier, Shea and Charlie(old joke)Hoydelo/ woman's teams, Lucas/Lucas, Laping vs. Laping... Ok Ok....(Yo CP< are you out there?)
Yo, patrol, take a toll, be there a mole, ja-role! (ahem) hey it's my last entry...)
The Assassins took an early 20 - 8, first quarter lead and never looked back. These ain't your Assassins of old on Defence any more. Boasting a young super-fast group of 4th decade Assassins, those boys are pilots!!!!, Why because they fly around the Canadinn field, and crash down on those un-suspecting receivers.
Scoring for the WTFL's best team, were Jeff "MVP" Kull with 8 points, 2006 WTFL MVP Wayne "don't call me before 10:0am" Jackson and WTFL 2005 MVP, Dave "I won't be leavin anytime" Suehn Jr...all with TDs in the 1st quarter.
Responding for the Eagles was the WTFL's best kept secret,Henry Kornelsen with the TD, and the sensational, but under-used Sean Brooks.
In the second quarter, Jeff "don't call me the Conqueror" Kull added his second TD of the game, while WTFL ELITE division scoring Champ (told ya Chris) Chris Matheson added the 2 point convert.
Replying for the Eagles the smooth gliding Adrian Huntley, to make the score at the half 28-14 for the Assassins.
The Eagles won the second half, as Trevor Bell had 6 points in the 3rd, while Matheson matched that for the Assassins. 3/4 score was Assassins 34 - Eagles 20.
Fourth Quarter action saw the Assassins, Wayne Jackson, add to the lead with a TD, converted by the World's most experienced (read oldest) Elite division receiver, Dan "pipes" Kinaschuk, with the patented hook out/ slide in, 2 pt. convert.
The Eagles continued to battle as Sean Brooks scored a major, while Jake Kornelsen added the 2 point convert.
Trevor Bell boomed the kickoffs for 2 singles on both his chances in the second half. (Hey aren't the Bombers looking for a kicker???)
Final score in a very entertaining game, was "the Big Red Dog" (Assassins) 42 - Eagles 30.
OK JON. as promised. All I got, is up! Todd or Brad, you are on!

It was a good game, you guys got up early and it was definatly hard to get back when you are down a few scores. My only complaint is I wish you guys had a little more class (ie Wayne). It seemed as though it was the first time Wayne had ever seen the endzone the way he was running into the endzone looking back at me then dancing in front of me. I hardly ever get mad but I thought that it was a slap in the face when you are up 3 scores in the fourth. The Assasins played well as a team and deserved to win the championship game. We'll see you next season!

Jeff,
Thanks for the kind words. You guys are a formidable foe, and you are right in the sense that spotting you a 2 touchdown lead early is tough to come back from. We managed to get back within 6 but your TD with less than a minute to go in the half, followed by the only turnover of the game early in the 3rd was the difference in my opinion.
I know there are some great rivalries in touch football down east, but I have to believe the Assassins/Eagles slug fests over the years are right up there, and they have certainly been alot of fun to be part of. You have our number in the last several October matchups but they are still fun nonetheless.
When the leaves turn color in the fall, and with all due respect to our other opponents, I do believe the Assassins and Eagles know what it takes to get there.
Congratulations.
Silver Fox
